The 2017 edition of the HR Technology Conference wrapped up about a week and a half ago, and other than transitioning back to my real world day-to-day responsibilities, I’ve also spent the time since then processing what I heard and what I learned. When I attend a conference, I usually like to hold off writing about it until a little while afterwards because I like to take a look back at my notes, scribbles, and tweets and see if there is some sort of theme that emerges, especially from an HR practitioner perspective. And when I did so this year, the one thing that came across loud and clear can be summed up in a quote from Friday keynote speaker Josh Bersin – “People Still Matter.”
The 2017 edition of the HR Technology Conference – the 20th annual by the way – is now about two weeks away. This annual gathering, celebration, and showcase of all things HR technology related has quickly become one of my favorite HR events of the year, one I continually look forward to. I am admittedly a conference junkie and enjoy the opportunity to immerse myself and learn a few new things regardless of the topic, but the reason HR Tech has become one of my favorite, a definite on my priority list of must attend events each year, is that it really allows me to step outside my day to day and think differently; to think bigger.

In preparing for this year’s HR Technology Conference, one of the sessions I was most looking forward to was the pre-conference “Women in HR Technology” event. Anytime something new is offered on the agenda you just never know how it’s going to be received, but based on the descriptions, panelists, and pre-conference hype, it seemed to have promise to be a solid session. And judging by the overwhelming attendance and standing room only/overflow situation, I’d say for a first time event it exceeded expectations. An all-star panel of female leaders from companies such as ADP, Equifax, Ceridian, Paychex, SAP, Cornerstone, Ultimate, and Oracle (among others!) offered lively discussions and countless bits of great advice on developing and promoting more women into technology roles and leadership roles within technology companies.
